Huber+Suhner starts construction on new production facility

Pfäffikon/Pisary - Huber+Suhner is constructing a new production site for optical circuits in Pisary, Poland. The company plans to increase manufacturing of its optical circuit switch (OCS) portfolio with the new location. OCS contribute to more efficient utilization of data centers.

Huber+Suhner is constructing another production site for optical circuits in Poland. The company with locations in Pfäffikon in the canton of Zurich and Herisau in Appenzell Ausserrhoden manufactures components and system solutions for electrical and optical connection technology. According to a press release, the new location will contribute to increasing the manufacture of its POLATIS optical circuit switch (OCS) portfolio. OCS help with more efficient utilization of high-performance computing centers. The increase in the use of artificial intelligence (AI) is said to be a driving force behind demand for high-performance computing centers.

The new site in Pisary is close to the existing production facility in Krzeszowice. The company boasts a good offering of qualified technicians coming from the nearby universities and technical schools in Kraków. Jürgen Walter, COO in the communication segment at Huber+Suhner, commented: “The data center market is a significant part of the growth strategy for Huber+Suhner. Our POLATIS optical circuit switch portfolio enhances our well-established structured cabling solutions in the best possible way and will help shape future-proof data center architectures for applications like AI.”

According to the press release, OCS enable network operators to rapidly provide, protect, test, and monitor cross-connect traffic directly at the fiber layer at speeds of terabits per second. The new production site is expected to be completed by the end of 2024. The new facility spanning 3,000 square meters will be fitted with air-source heat pumps and photovoltaic panels for solar power generation and will have its own wastewater treatment plant. ce/js
