Brauerei Locher wins Swiss Beer Award for its stout

Appenzell - Brauerei Locher won prizes in eight categories of the Swiss Beer Award, including the gold medal for its Schwarzer Kristall stout. In total, 550 breweries competed against each other. An 80-strong expert jury evaluates the best Swiss beers on the basis of sensory characteristics.

Brauerei Locher from Appenzell in the canton of Appenzell Innerrhoden claimed the gold medal for its Schwarzer Kristall stout at the Swiss Beer Award Night. There was a record level of participation in the competition, with 550 contenders up for awards, as detailed in a press release. A total of 80 experts tested and evaluated the beers according to strict laboratory and sensory criteria.

Brauerei Locher, now under fifth-generation management, brews Appenzeller Bier. The family-run brewery won prizes in eight categories on account of its “unique taste, quality and local authenticity”. In addition to the gold medal mentioned above, the brewery claimed two silver and bronze medals in addition to several distinctions in the Anthracite category.

The competition pays tribute to the diversity and quality of the beer scene, which is shaped by breweries in Switzerland and Liechtenstein.
